Episode #174: Worth the Price? Sit Down Restaurants Part 1

When planning a trip to Disney, one often wonders whether the sit-down restaurants are worth the splurge. Our latest podcast episode delves into this topic, starting with an in-depth look at the STK Steakhouse experience. Known for its vibrant, club-like atmosphere, complete with a DJ, STK is a hit for some guests. Brittany, our guest, enjoys its unique ambiance, but for those seeking a quieter dining experience, it might not be ideal. The menu offers high-end steakhouse fare, including steak, chicken, and seafood. However, the ambiance can either enhance or detract from the experience, depending on personal preferences. It's important to consider whether you prefer a lively atmosphere when deciding if this restaurant is worth the price.

Continuing our culinary journey, we explore the enchanting streets of Disney Springs. Two popular dining spots here are Chef Art Smith's Homecoming and The Edison. Homecoming delights with its famous brunch, mouthwatering deviled eggs, and thigh-high chicken biscuits, all offering a fantastic blend of flavor and price. The waterside view adds to the delightful experience. On the other hand, The Edison boasts a unique industrial gothic vibe with notable entertainment. However, our feelings about the food were mixed. While the DB Clothesline Candied Bacon caught social media attention, the taste and portion size left us wanting more. Similarly, the Edison Burger fell short of expectations compared to other options in the area. This candid review aims to help you decide whether these venues are worth visiting.

Our episode also takes you to The Contemporary and Disney's Wilderness Lodge, showcasing unique dining experiences from Steakhouse 71 to Whispering Canyon Cafe. Steakhouse 71 offers dishes inspired by Walt Disney's favorites, including the acclaimed Stack Burger, which is arguably the best burger on the property. The restaurant's welcoming atmosphere makes it ideal for a date night, while park attire is accepted. We then shift focus to Boma – Flavors of Africa at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, where a vibrant African marketplace setting offers diverse flavors and classic American dishes. Both dining experiences are praised for their value, setting, and delicious offerings.

We also explore the dining options at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, featuring a quick service restaurant that doubles as a pool bar with stunning views of Bay Lake. The charcuterie flatbread appetizer and the standout bison cheeseburger left a lasting impression. We compare the bison cheeseburger to the offerings at Steakhouse 71, pondering which one reigns supreme. For dessert lovers, the charming campfire mousse is a must-try. The lively atmosphere and accommodating service enhance the overall dining experience, making it memorable for families.

Lastly, we discuss Ohana at the Polynesian Village Resort. The enchanting ambiance, complete with ukulele music and views of the castle, is undeniably captivating. However, our experience with the food was less than stellar, leading us to question whether it's worth the price. We acknowledge that the reopening period might have impacted our experience and suggest a future visit for a fresh perspective.

Our episode provides a comprehensive guide to navigating Disney's culinary scene, ensuring you pick the dining experiences that best fit your taste and expectations. Whether you're a Disney veteran or a first-time visitor, these insights will help you make informed decisions about where to dine during your magical adventure.
